Dentist Spotlight: Dr. Michelle Phelan

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dr. Phelan attended the University of Florida for her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and her Doctorate in Dental Medicine.   Her favorite part of dentistry is building a trusting relationship with each and every patient. Dr. Phelan values knowing the patient not just about their oral health. This relationship, knowledge and trust ensures patients are comfortable choosing treatment and during each appointment.

During her free time, Dr. Phelan enjoys keeping active by running, hiking or working out at the gym. She enjoys almost any activity even more if she can bring her dogs Archer and Millie. Spending the day at the beach with her fiancé Hayden, family and friends is one of her favorite adventures.

Throughout Dr. Phelan’s dental education and career she has enjoyed volunteering her time abroad and in the local community. Using the unique skills developed in the recent years to help provide compassionate care to those in need is one of the most rewarding experiences for her.  Often  you will spot her volunteering her Saturday’s to the  Freedom Clinic . Our doctors host dental students who assist us in providing free care to the underserved community one Saturday a month at our practice.

If you or someone you know needs an extraction or a filling but are struggling to pay, we are here to help! Contact the Freedom Clinic to schedule a screening appointment by calling: 352-421-5510.

Sedation Dentistry

Starting in June 2022, we will be offering several options for sedation dentistry in the office. With these medications in pill form or IV sedation dentistry works as a form of conscious sedation to help you feel relaxed during your appointment. These methods do not put you fully to sleep, but it will make you less aware of your surroundings.  That means you can still respond to verbal commands or gentle nudging.    Unlike pill forms taken for sedation, the dentist administers the sedation intravenously.

IV sedation provides several benefits:

  • Zero anxiety!
  • It starts working quickly, and you feel minimal to no pain during the procedure.
  • The dentist can monitor you and easily adjust the dosage.
  • It creates a long period of amnesia, so you won’t remember the procedure at all when you wake up. It allows you to cooperate for a more extended period, so your dentist can perform multiple procedures with only one appointment.
